Naples City Of Art

Naples is one of the largest and most enchanting cities of art in the Mediterranean Sea. The city dominates the gulf of the same name, which extends from the Sorrentine Peninsula to the volcanic area of Campi Flegrei and offers a very suggestive view, with the imposing volcano Vesuvius and, in the distance, three magnificent islands - Capri , Ischia and Procida. Its historic center tells 2500 years of history and became a UNESCO heritage site in 1995.

Thanks to its historical and archaeological stratifications, Naples offers completely enchanting and particular itineraries for visits. Not much remains of "Partenope" as the Greek founders called it, an example are the Greek walls that pass through via Mezzocannone, while the Roman remains are much more numerous. In the center we find the fantastic archaeological area of San Lorenzo Maggiore.

The daily and artistic life of Naples unfolds through its alleys and its neighborhoods teeming with life and monuments, ranging from the Spanish Quarters to Health, popular areas rich in colors and folklore, to the road called " Spaccanapoli ", which divides in two the ancient city, visitors will be able to start from the Church of Gesù Nuovo, pass through the Basilica of San Domenico Maggiore from the Angevin era and arrive, going up via Duomo, to the magnificent Cathedral where you can visit the Chapel of the Treasure of San Gennaro which houses, relics of the blood of the patron saint of the city.

Another interesting itinerary starts from Piazza Bellini, a place of literary cafes, follows the medieval arcades of the palace of Filippo d'Angiò in Via Tribunali and reaches Castel Capuano. One of the four castles that dominate Naples together with Castel Sant'Elmo, Castel dell'Ovo and the fortress-palace of Castel Nuovo, also known as “the Maschio Angioino”, built under the reign of Charles I of Anjou.

From the Maschio Angioino you can set off on a backward itinerary towards Piazza del Plebiscito , framed by the Basilica of San Francesco di Paola, which echoes the Roman Pantheon in its shapes, and by the Royal Palace, residence of the Bourbons. Among the other buildings worthy of a visit there are, then, the Monastery of Santa Chiara, with the splendid decorations of the Cloister of the Clarisse, the Basilica of San Lorenzo Maggiore, which preserves evidence of Greek-Roman structures in the internal cloister, the Royal Palace of Capodimonte, with the National Galleries that collect works by Titian, Raphael, Correggio, Masaccio, Mantegna and Caravaggio and various museums including the Gaetano Filangieri Civic Museum.

The intense cultural life of this art capital unfolds, as well as in museums such as the Madre , also along the cafes of the Galleria Umberto I and its premises are teeming with life even in the evening, when Naples becomes the city of university students, musicians, pizza and good company.
